Zyp BikeShare is a dense network of 40 kiosks and 400 bikes deployed in Birmingham, AL in October 2015. Residents and visitors can access 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. Riders can check out bicycles for short rides through annual memberships or by swiping their credit cards.
The BikeShare system includes 100 electric pedal assist bikes, which makes it the first public pedelec BikeShare program in North and South America, and gives riders a little extra ‘zyp’ along Birmingham’s often challenging terrain.
Zyp BikeShare is an initiative of REV Birmingham. Sponsors include Regions Bank, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, Alabama Power Foundation, and the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham. The system was created in partnership with the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham and the City of Birmingham.
Zyp BikeShare is a pioneer in the movement of e-mobility and boasts a strong commitment to community vibrancy, livability, sustainability, health, connectivity, economic impact, and cutting-edge technologies. This led Zyp BikeShare to the decision of partnering with and utilizing equipment from Bewegen Technologies, Inc., the international leader in pedelec BikeShare systems. www.bewegen.com.
